After months of waiting, we have exciting news!
The petition will be in our hands on February 18th! This means the volunteers in California will have exactly 60 days to collect 850,000 signatures.
Please clear your schedules for our meeting on Tuesday, February 21 at 5:30pm at the Whole Wheatery in Lancaster. This is a critical meeting. We will be:
- Handing out petition sheets for people to begin collecting signatures
- Reviewing highlights from the petition training to make sure we collect qualified signatures correctly
- Sharing experiences from our first up front and personal experiences with signature gathering
- Demonstrating the new Label GMOs community website where we will be scheduling and posting signature collection dates and times
If you have been waiting for the petition to be released to be more active with our group, the time is here. We need all hands on deck for the next 60 days. It’s a short period of time – both to collect signatures and to contribute some of your free time for this important initiative. If for some reason you can’t make the meeting on 2/21, we may be able to make other arrangements to get you petition signature sheets if you notify us.
*Action Item: All volunteers should stop by their local post office and pick up a stack of voter registration forms. We want to have some of these on hand while gathering signatures in case someone is not registered to vote, but is willing to register in order to sign our petition.
If waiting until the 21st is too long for you – and you are itching to get out there and collect signatures – join us at Walmart in Palmdale at 1:00pm on Sunday, February 19th. We will be gathering signatures there, and at the Whole Wheatery on Monday, February 20th at 11:00am. Please contact Kristen, Blair or Sheree if you have questions or would like to gather signatures at an alternative location prior to our meeting on Tuesday.
For all you folks who gave us your email so you could be kept up to date as to when and where the petition will be available: We will be sending out regular emails as to where and when we will be set up.
Finally, we will be setting up a booth at the Almond Festival in Quartz Hill next month. There is a $75 fee for us to register, and we are asking for donations and volunteers to take shifts during the festival. Every dollar and every hour helps.
We really need your support – this is your opportunity to be part of the solution – we hope to see you very soon!
